How to read your reaction time

What actually affects this number
Display lag
The time between the color actually changing and it appearing on your screen adds directly to your measured reaction time, and varies by monitor.
Mouse and browser lag
Wireless mice, low polling rates, and background browser tabs can all add a few extra milliseconds before your click registers.
Anticipation vs. reaction
Clicking based on a guessed rhythm rather than the actual color change will occasionally produce false, too-fast "reactions" that don't reflect real reflexes — the test resets if you click too early to guard against this.
Fatigue and focus
Reaction time reliably gets worse with tiredness and distraction, which is why testing across several attempts gives a more honest picture than a single click.
